Five UMD researchers from the colleges of Arts and Humanities (ARHU), Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS), and Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS), in disciplines of biology, psychology, neuroscience and linguistics, collaborate on cutting edge research on animal communication.

The articles are featured in a special issue of the British journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B, and are also on MD Today and the Brain Behavior Institute (BBI) website.
