Jennifer (Markfeld) Magnuson, PhD, CCC-SLP is a postdoctoral research fellow under Dr. Rachel Romeo’s and Dr. Bridgette Kelleher’s (IU Indianapolis Institute for Human Health and Wellbeing) mentorship at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is funded by an NICHD NIH F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship Award. She received her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at James Madison University, and earned her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Vanderbilt University. Jennifer is interested in how caregiver factors such as talk, mental health, and stress relate to language learning and development in children aged birth to five, particularly in populations at increased likelihood for language learning difficulties. At UMD, Jennifer will investigate how dynamic changes in caregiver stress relate to momentary fluctuations in the home language environment, and how caregiver stress and the home language environment may interact to predict children’s language development and school readiness skills.
